The SL Roadster adopts several styling cues from the popular Mercedes SLK. If you have an opportunity, make sure you head to the Detroit Auto Show beginning January 14th. For those of you that can’t make it, you won’t have to wait long, the 2013 Mercedes SL is set to hit showrooms this spring.

Compared with its successful predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz SL offers considerably more comfort and sportiness, setting new standards in the luxury roadster class. Added to which is uncompromising day-to-day suitability, which turns the SL into an incomparable all-rounder among sports cars. In short, anyone that talks about the new SL is bound to be talking about the ultimate in passionate, refined motoring.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “There are around 900 million cars in the world and thousands of models. But there are only a handful of automotive icons. Our SL is one of them: it has class, it has style, it is the ultimate in comfort and luxury. But it combines all that with incredible sportiness and dynamism. You would struggle to find a car that embodies Gottlieb Daimler’s aspiration more perfectly than our new SL: the best or nothing.”

Upcoming SLK 55 AMG Proudly Features Cylinder Deactivation

    Thursday, August 25th, 2011

There’s been a lot of great Mercedes-Benz news floating around lately, but the latest and greatest news is surrounding the highly anticipated SLK 55 AMG. The new SLK 55 AMG will feature cylinder deactivation. The employees at this NJ Mercedes-Benz dealership are all smiles and eager to meet the newest member of the AMG family. Until then, read the article below and enjoy this video of the new SLK 55 AMG, courtesy of Benzinsider.com!

The arrival of the new SLK 55 AMG is bigger news than normal because this model has been a long time coming, and its slew of features foretell the types of technologies that will be coming down the pipeline from the luxury car maker.

The new SLK is lighter, has carbon fiber trim that we’ve all come to love and has the usual luxury refinements we expect from the breed. But instead of highlighting its powerful engine or light chassis, Mercedes has chosen to highlight the cylinder management system that the SLK 55 has been endowed with. This system deactivates half of the V8′s cylinders when they’re not needed, resulting in a 30% reduction in fuel consumption with a corresponding reduction in emissions. Using advanced electronics and methodologies, Mercedes was able to activate and deactivate the system in a mere 30 milliseconds, so that response is, in their words, “immediate and imperceptible”.

Such pride in reducing horsepower in a sports car was unthinkable then, but by making the system transparent to the driver, Mercedes’ engineers were able to retain the driving experience while providing significant improvements in fuel economy and emissions output.

2012 SLK features Magic Sky Control

Awhile back we brought you news about the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK with the video featuring Nico Rosberg taking it for a spin in the South of France. We mentioned that the 2012 SLK will come with a slew of new offerings, one being Magic Sky Control. Now that the 2012 SLK is no secret, we’re learning more and more about Magic Sky Control, and here at Ray Catena Mercedes, we like sharing. We’ve got a good bit of show and tell, if you will, courtesy of BenzInsider!

Here are the basics: Magic Sky Control is not your everyday sun roof. It’s Mercedes-Benz’s very own auto-tinting glass roof panel that features light-blocking crystals that make this “magic” possible. The panels will lighten or darken at the driver’s will without actually having to open the window like a traditional sun roof.

Magic Sky Control also provides better protection against harmful UV rays – better than regular blinds or thermal insulation! Magic Sky Control is the wave of the future, but if you still crave that wind-in-your-hair feeling, you can always put the top down to enjoy the great outdoors – the SLK is a convertible, after all!

This video of the 2012 SLK gives a good look at Magic Sky Control in action:

You all seem to love it when we post spy shots so here we have pictures of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK in disguise!  Some changes to the SLK include the grille, which now closely resembles its larger SLS AMG sibling, along with LED running lights.  If Autoblog’s insider sources hold true, the reason behind the larger grille isn’t just to mimic the gorgeous gullwing, but to feed the new 476 horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6.  If that is the case, the SLK will be wearing an AMG badge on the back.  Hopefully the Paris Motor Show will provide us with more information on the Mercedes SLK soon!

Here we have Mercedes-Benz SLK spy photos for you thanks to Auto Express.  The new third-generation SLK closely resembles its predecessor, but with a new crease that runs from the front wing indicator back into the doors for extra visual appeal.  The new SLK also features a two-piece retractable roof, while the interior will feature retro air vents and AirScarf neck warmers built into the seats.  Under the hood, the entry level SLK200 will get the 201bhp 1.8-litre CGI petrol, while the convertible gets diesel power for the first time, courtesy of the 201bhp 2.4-litre CDI unit from the E-Class. The 300 V6 model is discontinued, but the SLK350 gains the revised 302bhp direct injection V-Series 3.5-litre V6.  Additionally, a performance version is likely to be offered, which may be powered by AMG’s hotly anticipated twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 which produces around 465bhp.  What do you think of the new SLK?

We hope you all are enjoying these spy photos because we have more on the way thanks to Car Advice!  Here are pictures of the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG.  The engine to be used for this model is still a mystery, however, spy photographers said it sounds like a V8 engine.  This could possibly suggest that the new 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 may find its way into the SLK.  If it’s the twin turbo V8, it may have performance figures of around 400-450 horsepower, around 90 more than the current SLK 55 AMG which makes use of a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8.
