Weather can be unpredictable. Because of this reality, it is likely you will encounter inclement weather at some point during while you are driving. While inclement weather ranges in its severity and impact, it is always important to use caution and care when driving in dangerous weather. By knowing what weather hazards have the potential to make driving dangerous, you are better able to take measures to protect yourself and those your love while driving or planning a trip.

Common Types of Inclement Weather

There are a number of inclement weather types that have to potential to pose a threat to the safety of anyone on the road. These include the following:

-  Rain and thunderstorms

-  Lightening storms

-  Sleet and hail

-  Tornados and wind storms Dust storms

-  Snowfall

-  Blizzards

These weather hazards can pose a minor inconvenience, a life-threatening danger, or anything in between. It is important you always use caution when you are on the road and come across unpleasant weather.

Tips for Driving in Bad Weather Conditions

Some important steps you can take to stay safe in bad weather include the following:

-  Always increase your following distance

-  Use your lights

-  Make use of your windshield wipers and defroster settings

-  If someone near you is acting recklessly, try to safely distance yourself from them

-  If you cannot see clearly or of conditions are making it hard for you to control your vehicle, pull over and wait for conditions to improve.

It is important to note that you should never attempt to drive near a tornado or in the middle of a hurricane. These dangerous weather conditions are life threatening on their own and are even more dangerous when you are in a vehicle.
